Finding Gratitude
Here in Canada, we just celebrated Thanksgiving weekend — a time that often invites us to pause and reflect on what we’re grateful for.
This year, I found myself noticing the small but meaningful things: my family and the effort we make to see each other, our health, the beautiful weather, and the simple joy of good conversation.
Today, I felt especially grateful for the ravine near my home — the stillness of the water, the rustle of leaves, and the beauty of the trees as they begin to change colour. Those quiet moments in nature have a way of grounding us, reminding us to breathe and take in our surroundings.

The Benefits of Gratitude
Research shows that cultivating gratitude can support both mental and physical health. Regularly reflecting on what we’re thankful for has been linked to:
Improved sleep
Reduced symptoms of depression
Better heart health
Stronger relationships and social connection
Gratitude doesn’t have to be a grand practice or constant positivity. It can simply mean pausing to notice — the sunlight through the window, the sound of laughter, or the comfort of a familiar routine.
When Gratitude Feels Hard
For many people, gratitude can feel distant when life feels heavy or uncertain. It’s important to remember that gratitude should never be forced.
If you’re moving through a difficult time, you don’t have to search for silver linings before you’re ready. Sometimes the most compassionate step is to acknowledge your pain and respond to yourself with kindness.
Self-compassion and gratitude can coexist — one makes space for the other.
A Gentle Invitation
This week, you might take a moment to notice one small thing that brings you ease or comfort. It doesn’t need to erase the hard parts — only remind you that beauty and difficulty can exist side by side.
When we allow gratitude to grow naturally, it becomes a quiet anchor — helping us stay connected to what sustains us. 🌊
